Bridging the Gap in Professional Training

Transistion-with-the-EAThe Engineer Accelerator bridges the gap in training by going beyond a standard internship in three main areas

  • It uses a curriculum that makes the implicit skills of a professional engineer explicit. These skills are distilled into a series of seminars and labs which give the students a framework to understand the subtle issues they will see in their career. When these issues come up they will be able to recognize them and respond accordingly.
  • It uses an accelerated hardware development cycle to familiarize the students with industry practice. In each cycle students are expected to produce professional level deliverables and go through a design review of those deliverables. The students get to experience how projects play out in real time and what it takes to hit their deliverables on time.  The documentation generated in these projects will be incorporated into a portfolio and gives potential employers a snapshot of the level of work the students can produce.
  • It uses an open door policy where students can ask all the questions they have without fear of wasting anyone’s time or getting in the way of work. This means they can work though their uncertainty about professional work and enter a job confident that they know what to expect.
